Enable 802.11 k/r/v on OpenWRT

For this we need to be using OpenWRT SNAPSHOT releases, (blame the DAWN developers not me...)

This guides assumes you already installed OpenWRT 19.07.x

https://chef.libremesh.org

Select your model choose carefully and select (at time of writing 21.02-SNAPSHOT)

add this packages:

  • umdns (required by dawn)
  • dawn (dawn core package)
  • luci-app-dawn (dawn luci package)
  • kmod-zram (optional compressed swap RAM)
  • attendedsysupgrade-common (optional)
  • luci-app-attendedsysupgrade (optional)

download sysupgrade image and install.

configure your router/AP as required, setup everything as normally.

once you have done that we need to fix a few errors:

umdns FS#3355 : UMDNS: does not start on master with seccomp (openwrt.org)

ssh login to your openwrt device and edit as follows:

vi /etc/init.d/umdns

change line (36) from:

 [ -f /etc/seccomp/umdns.json ] && procd_set_param seccomp /etc/seccomp/umdns.json

to:

 [ -f /etc/seccomp/umdns.json ] # && procd_set_param seccomp /etc/seccomp/umdns.json

do a umdns service restart

/etc/init.d/umdns restart

DAWN should be up and running a few more steps to be done:

edit your wireless config (hope you already setup everything)

vi /etc/config/wireless

under each config wifi-iface 'xxxxx' add the following (setup the mobility to the same ID on the web):

  •         option ieee80211r '1'
  •         option ieee80211v '1'
  •         option ieee80211k '1'

reload the OpenWRT configuration

/etc/init.d/network reload

that should enable 802.11k/r/v across your router/AP's...
